Sansom Community Services

The Sansom Community Services Office (SCS), a unit of Housing and Conference Services, strives to provide support services and advocacy to Sansom Place residents. SCS also provides similar services to the entire Penn community.

Our staff team, comprised primarily of Penn Students, shares the goals of developing a strong residential community and helping to ensure the students' experience is consistent with the University's pursuit of academic excellence.

Specifically, the SCS office:

  • Supports and assists residents of Sansom Place
  • Sets and enforces University policies and procedures
  • Addresses concerns regarding quality of life
  • Supervises the Sansom Place Residential Staff (see below and the Meet the Staff webpage for more details)

We encourage you to utilize SCS services to enhance your stay at Sansom Place and make you feel: AT HOME AT PENN!

The Sansom Place Residential Staff supervised by SCS includes

  • Sansom Coordinators (SC's) -- Work behind-the-scenes as assistants to the Director, supervisors of the Sansom Advisors and managers, run the building's computer lab and support the daily operations.

  • Sansom Advisors (SA's) -- Live in Sansom Place and strive to foster community, offer programmatic activities, respond to emergencies, and assist residents with identified needs.

  • Managers --Work with SCS to provide communication services. Managers maintain the SCS server and website and produce the SCS publications including monthly newsletters.

OTHER IMPORTANT FOLKS TO KNOW...

The information center (service desk) in the main lobbies of Sansom Place are staffed 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week by the following groups:

  • Information Center Specialists, Weekdays 8 AM - 5 PM.
    Information Center Specialists (ICS) are helpful individuals who:
    • handle check-in and check-out of residents
    • provide KEYS to residents who are locked out of their rooms, or need access to public/common spaces
    • sign in visitors and guests following the following established guest access procedure (see Safety and Security section)
    • assist in emergency situations
    • serve as a central contact point for duty personnel and building staff
    • loan out residence hall equipment (see Public Space section for details).
    • Sell SEPTA (transit) tokens and stamps


    This year's Information Center Specialists are:
    • Sansom Place East: Jake Williams
    • Sansom Place West: Julian Meyers

  • Student Managers: The Info Center Specialists are supported in their duties by managers who work Weekdays from 5 PM - 12 AM and weekends from 8 AM - 12 AM
  • SpectaGuard: Weekdays and weekends 12 AM - 8 AM

Housing Assignments: If you have questions about your occupancy agreement or would like more information about housing on campus, please visit the Housing and Assignments website, call 215-898-8271, or stop by their office at Stouffer Commons 3702 Spruce Street.

Your Neighbors: We encourage your to get to know your neighbors! Introduce yourself in the hall, attend a floor program, participate in a building event! Your experience at Sansom Place will be much richer for it. Our diverse community includes:

  • Students who are single or partnered/married
  • Students who come from across the United States and all over the world
  • Students who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate, professional degrees, and post-graduate studies
  • Students who have just started at Penn, and schools and others who have been here for many years
  • Visiting scholars and guests of the University who are visiting Philadelphia for academic reasons
  • Conference Guests
