- Residence Staff
The community atmosphere in Sansom Place is fostered through the
assistance of live-in Sansom Advisors who are full-time graduate
students. These staff members are carefully selected and trained
to answer questions and to organize educational and social programs.
Supervising these efforts are a staff of head residents and the
Director of Graduate Programs of Sansom Place.
- Security
The Department of Housing Services is concerned about
your personal safety and the security of the facilities. Sansom
Place is staffed 24 hours a day by Security Marshals who secure
each building entrance and check ID's and the video surveillance
system. We share the responsibility with each of you, and ask for
your cooperation in following the established security measures.
- Information Centers
In Sansom Place, information centers are staffed 24 hours. In addition
to providing general information, services include emergency assistance,
equipment loan, and reporting of maintenance needs.
- Telephone
If you live in any College House, Sansom Place West, Sansom Place East, or any on-campus fraternity or sorority, basic telephone service is mandatory to meet University public safety standards. Basic telephone service provides a common line that works throughout each College House suite with 511 emergency service direct to the Penn police as well as free Philadelphia local and metropolitan calls. Personal Access Codes (PAC) are no longer needed to dial these calls. One phone set will be provided per suite to allow for quick access to local telephone service.
More infomation about phone service can be found at the: Student Telephone Services Website
Phone: (215) 746-6000 or email: service-requests@isc.upenn.edu
Descriptions of both standard and additional line features (with instructions for using) are available on the Student Telephone Services website on the "Standard Features" and "Additional Features" pages. Voicemail service is also available as an add-on to your telephone services. Each College House/Fraternity/Sorority suite will have a phone set available in order for you and your roommates to access your telephone service.
Move-In
In most instances, on-campus residents are signed up for basic phone service automatically. Your phone line will be active and ready for use the day you arrive. But in some cases (especially if your Housing assignment occurred outside of the standard process) you may need to contact Student Telephone Services to set-up an account.
Long Distance Calls and PACs
Each student will be assigned a personal authorization code (PAC) that they will need to dial before making domestic and international long distance calls. This PAC travels with you, making it easy for you to make long distance calls from any campus telephone. Using this tracking system also allows Student Telephone Services to provide personalized billing statements that keep your calls separate from your roommate's calls.
You can look up your PAC online through the: Student Telephone Services Website. Please note that this PAC is different from your access code for the PennInTouch service.
Billing
Services are billed on a per student basis. As of Fall 2008, each student is charged a $36 fee per semester for their use of the common line telephone services as well as for individual domestic and international long distance telephone calls.
- Utilities
There are no additional utility or maintenance charges. All utility
charges, except telephone, are included in rent.
- Dining
Dining contracts are available with several of the dining facilities
on campus. For information, call 215-898-7585 or check out the Dining
webpage.
