Living @ Sansom
Convenience
Sansom Place is within walking distance of all campus buildings, allowing
residents to access libraries, recreational facilities, social and
cultural events, as well as all academic buildings. Sansom Place has
on-site laundry facilities, a computer lab and many study and recreational
lounges for residents to use. All rooms are fully furnished, all utilities
(except telephone) are included in rent. The University also provides
24-hour Information Centers.
Security
Every effort is made to provide and maintain
secure residences and
well-lighted pathways to other buildings. Access to Sansom Place is
limited to PENNcard holders and their guests. Authorized contractors
are admitted during certain hours upon presentation of a valid ID.
Further limitations may be instituted from time to time. PENN students
also have access to both walking and driving escort services run by
the PENN Police.
ResNet
All residents of Sansom Place Have
ResNet service, which provides
every bedroom and living room with a connection point to access sophisticated
data, voice, and video services. Each room has a high speed Ethernet
connection, and the option of private or common line telephone service,
with enhanced telecommunications features. Long distance and international
calling is discounted to residents. Residents also have access to
the Penn Video Network, which offers most conventional cable TV channels,
as well as an entire suite of public affairs and international programming.
Additional channels originate from Penn, including: the students-run
UTV13; the School of Art and Sciences' SSTV-19; a 24-hour movie channel;
and a Video Bulletin Board providing information about student services,
job opportunities, and upcoming campus events. For more information,
call 215-573-9473. In order to take advantage of ResNet, TV's must
have coaxial cable connection, and computers must have "10BaseT Ethernet
card" or adapter. Ethernet software is provided free of charge. If
you need assistance in selecting a card or obtaining and installing

Privacy
Sansom Place offers a quiet environment well-suited for a busy academic
schedule. All units offer single occupancy or a private bedroom.
Flexibility
Sansom Place offers different occupancy periods, so you may request
to live in one that will accommodate your academic schedule. Graduate
students have access to their residences during the academic year
vacations. If you want to change your room or building, you may do
so by applying for a room change during the designated periods.
